Britain is home to an extraordinary variety of beautiful flowers, from delicate spring blooms to spectacular summer favourites. At Blossom Street Florists, we love celebrating seasonal flowers and allowing their natural colours, shapes and textures to inspire our designs.
Choosing British-grown flowers when they are in season can also help support local growers, reduce the distance flowers travel and bring the character of the British seasons into our bouquets and arrangements.
Here are some of our favourites.
Sweet Peas – Delicate, Fragrant and Romantic
Sweet peas are a true seasonal delight. Their soft petals, beautiful colours and unmistakable fragrance make them perfect for relaxed bouquets and romantic arrangements.
We especially love their natural, garden-inspired appearance. A few stems can add movement and fragrance to an arrangement without making it feel overly formal.
Peonies – A Touch of Seasonal Luxury
It would be difficult to talk about our favourites without mentioning peonies.
Their large, luxurious blooms gradually open to reveal layer upon layer of delicate petals. From soft blush pink to white and deeper shades, peonies are particularly beautiful for weddings, romantic bouquets and elegant seasonal arrangements.
Their season is relatively short, which makes their arrival each year feel even more special.
Dahlias – Bold, Beautiful and Full of Character
As summer moves towards autumn, dahlias bring an incredible variety of colours, shapes and textures.
From dramatic dinner-plate varieties to neat pompon-style blooms, dahlias can completely change the personality of an arrangement. We love using them when creating colourful, abundant designs with a natural garden feel.
Delphiniums – Beautiful Height and Colour
For height, movement and impact, delphiniums are difficult to beat.
Their tall stems covered in delicate flowers can introduce wonderful shades of blue, purple, pink and white into an arrangement. They are especially effective in larger floral installations, wedding flowers and statement arrangements.
Foxgloves – A British Garden Favourite
Tall and elegant, foxgloves instantly evoke the feeling of a traditional British cottage garden.
Their distinctive bell-shaped flowers add height and an informal character to floral designs. They are particularly beautiful when incorporated into natural, meadow-inspired arrangements.
Hydrangeas – Full, Textured and Timeless
With their generous clusters of flowers, hydrangeas can create an impressive display with just a few stems.
We love their changing colours, from fresh whites and greens to pinks, blues and beautiful muted tones later in the season. They work wonderfully in everything from romantic wedding arrangements to statement table displays.
Roses – Forever a Favourite 🌹
The rose remains one of the world’s most loved flowers, and British-grown garden roses can be particularly beautiful.
Their fragrance, delicate petals and wonderful variety make them incredibly versatile. Roses can feel romantic and luxurious, but when combined with seasonal foliage and garden flowers, they can also create a wonderfully relaxed and natural arrangement.
Celebrating British Flowers Through the Seasons
One of the things we love most about floristry is that every season brings something different.
Spring offers delicate new growth and beautiful bulbs; summer gives us an abundance of colourful garden flowers; autumn introduces richer shades and wonderful textures; and winter brings evergreens, berries, branches and seasonal foliage.
Rather than expecting every flower to be available throughout the year, choosing seasonal varieties allows us to celebrate flowers when they are naturally at their most beautiful.
